The Value of Women and Children in the Marshall Islands
In traditional Marshallese culture, family is based on three "pillars": the land, the women, and the children. This saying, "our children are precious to us" is an important part of traditional and modern Marshallese culture. 50% of the Marshalls' population is under the age of 14. Half of this islands people are practically babies. However, only about one-third of these people will grow up to be women...

In the Marshall Islands, there are strong family ties. Multiple generations normally live together in one house. Although this is a traditional way of life, a modern twist takes place in the dynamics of the average Marshallese home. Culturally, it is a modern belief that women are just as capable as men when it comes to making decisions, and being successful, unlike in traditional culture, it's fairly uncommon to see a woman hold any power. The Marshall Islands have adopted the modern take on the house-wife role, where the wife makes a lot of the under-the-table decisions. This country seems to have rated well on the scale of women's equality, yet there are a few problems that this tiny country has managed to come across...
There are sixty-seven thousand, seven hundred + forty-seven people living in the Marshall Islands...
There are twenty-five thousand, nine hundred + fifteen women living in the Marshall Islands...
More than twelve thousand, eight hundred + seventy-four of these women have been domestically abused...
On average, two of these women died every year...

Foreign Prostitution
The Marshall Islands have recently expressed a major concern on moving up to a level-2 on the watch list for human sex-trafficking. But here's the thing...these girls that are making the numbers go higher aren't Marshallese...they're Chinese.
The only brothel owner you'll find in the Marshall Islands will have a name tag on her shirt...she'll most likely be the manager of a bar in Majuro. Majuro is a hot-spot for tourists, because its the most urbanized (besides Ebeye, and noone goes there for touristing purposes) with the most to offer...including bars. There are no clubs in the Marshalls as far as I have read that offer services, but only girls-practically slaves-from China, who are forced to offer services to foreign sea men who stop in at the bars. These girls are seemingly just waitresses, but most men know where to go and who offers that kind of service, sadly.
The Marshall Islands fails to comply with laws that would make this illegal, ship the girls back to their home country, or even to put bar owners in jail for this, but the Marshall Islands currently expressed concerns over their country being moved "up" on the list of countries targeted for human sex-trafficking.
